Selected papers of The 3rd Tsukuba International Conference on Materials Science (TICMS2015)

The 3rd Tsukuba International Conference on Materials Science (TICMS2015) was held from August 25 to September 5, 2015 in the University of Tsukuba, Japan. The conference was organized by the Division of Materials Science, in cooperation with the Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences, and Tsukuba Research Center for Interdisciplinary Materials Science. This international interdisciplinary conference, starting on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of University of Tsukuba in 2013, is intended for the world renowned scholars, researchers and students in materials science. The scope of the conference includes the various kinds of functional materials. The TICMS2015 is composed of five symposia/workshops organized by authorities of University of Tsukuba in each research field. This special issue contains 8 selected papers from invited and contributed papers, all of which have been screened on the basis of the standard review process of the program committee. The editors express their thankfulness to those authors who submitted their papers published in this special issue, which reflects the scientific value of the conference.
